Iain McKell

Another photographer that has visited for a talk this week is Iain McKell. He talked to use about his past work from when he was younger working on the beach. His first inspiration and love for photography came from a pair of scissors being left on some photographic paper to leave the shape behind, he said that this gave him the drive to see what work he could create.
He studied graphics in the 70's at Exeter college but taught himself photography from books while he did this. He practiced his teachings as a beach photographer on Weymouth beach.
Iain later went on to talk about his current project 'The new gypsies'. This project had taken him 10 years to complete, but finally it was being published in a book this year. The series shows various pictures of traveling people in their everyday lifestyle. Iain, himself travelled with the gypsies for short periods of time documenting them and their surroundings. He even took his good friend, Kate Moss along for some of the documenting, this gave her a 'release' from her current hectic lifestyle.
This is a hefty body of work that i would recommend taking a look at when the book hits the selfs!
